For individuals and families
UK immigration advice
If you are not yet sure which route applies to you, an initial advice appointment sets out where you stand, what the realistic options are, and what each of them would require.
Scope of work
What we do
- Initial advice appointments on any UK immigration route
- Written advice confirming the position and the options
- Second opinions on advice received elsewhere
- Referral within the firm to the relevant specialist area
Who this is for: Individuals seeking initial advice
What an advice appointment covers
A solicitor reviews your immigration history and current circumstances, explains the routes that are available on those facts, sets out the requirements and evidence for each, and confirms the advice in writing so you have a record of it.
What happens next is your decision
Advice does not commit you to instructing us further. If you do decide to proceed, we agree the scope of work and the fees in writing before any application work begins.
Who this page is for
- People who do not yet know which immigration route applies to them
- Applicants weighing up two or more possible routes and their timing
- Anyone who has been given advice elsewhere and wants a second opinion
- Families planning several applications in sequence
- Employers wanting an initial view before committing to a recruitment plan
How an advice appointment works
- You tell us briefly what you need, and we confirm the appointment and the fee for it in writing
- We ask for the documents and history that are relevant so the appointment is productive
- A solicitor reviews the position before the appointment rather than during it
- In the appointment, the routes available on your facts are explained, with requirements and evidence for each
- The advice is confirmed in writing afterwards, so you have a record of it
- If you decide to proceed, the scope of work and fees are agreed in writing before application work begins
What to bring or send in advance
Advice is only as good as the information behind it. It helps to have passports and any biometric residence documents, previous application and decision letters, details of time spent in and out of the UK, and evidence of income or employment where a financial requirement may be relevant. If documents are missing, say so; part of the appointment is working out how to deal with gaps.
Common areas where early advice makes the most difference
- Timing, where leave is due to expire or a qualifying period is not yet complete
- Financial requirements involving self-employment or more than one income source
- Immigration history that includes a refusal, an overstay, or a gap in leave
- Choosing between an appeal, administrative review and a fresh application after a refusal
- Applications involving children or other dependent family members
Fees
We agree fees in writing before substantive work begins, and we confirm what is included in the scope of work. How we charge, and the Home Office fees that are payable in addition to our professional fees, are explained on our fees page.
If you would like the position on your own facts reviewed, make an enquiry and we will confirm the next step in writing. An enquiry is a request for a consultation; it is not advice, and it does not create a solicitor-client relationship.
