Fee waivers
Fee Waiver Refused: What to Do Next
A refused fee waiver request does not decide the underlying immigration application, but it does create a short deadline. What matters next is why the request was refused and how quickly the position can be corrected.
Read the reasons carefully
Refusals usually turn on evidence: bank statements that do not cover the period, outgoings that are not documented, savings that have not been explained, or third-party support that appears in the accounts without explanation.
The deadline that follows
A refusal is normally accompanied by a short period in which to pay the fee so that the underlying application can proceed. That period is stated in the decision and needs to be diarised immediately.
The options
Depending on the circumstances, the options are usually to pay the fee within the period given, to make a fresh request with fuller evidence where that is still possible, or, where the household position has changed, to set out the new position. Each option has consequences for the underlying application.
Do not let the underlying application lapse
The most damaging outcome is an application treated as invalid because neither the fee nor a further request was dealt with in time. If you are unsure, take advice before the deadline rather than after it.
Where a solicitor helps
A solicitor reviews the refusal against the current fee waiver policy, identifies the evidential gap, advises on the safest route within the deadline, and prepares whatever follows.
