UK Visitor Visa Applications: Processing Times and Solicitor Support
Visitor visa applicants usually want to know two things: how long a decision takes, and what makes an application straightforward to decide. Processing times are published by UKVI and are outside any solicitor's control, including ours. What can be influenced is the clarity and completeness of the evidence submitted.
Processing times and priority-service availability change. Applicants should check the current UKVI position on GOV.UK before making travel plans.
Published service standards
UKVI publishes the service standards it aims to work to for visit visa applications, and those standards are the correct starting point for planning travel. They are aims rather than commitments, and they vary by application location and time of year. Check the current position on GOV.UK before booking anything.
Priority services offered by UKVI
UKVI itself offers paid priority and super-priority services in some locations. These affect where an application sits in the queue; they do not change the requirements, the evidence needed, or how the application is decided.
What commonly slows a decision
Incomplete supporting evidence, finances that are not explained, unclear travel history, or inconsistencies between the application form and the documents are the issues we see most often behind longer waits and refusals.
Evidencing the visit
A visit application generally needs to show the purpose of the visit, that the applicant will leave at the end of it, how the trip is funded, and that the funds are the applicant's own or are properly explained if provided by someone else.
If an application is refused
There is generally no right of appeal against a visit visa refusal. The usual course is a fresh application addressing the points raised in the refusal notice, which makes a careful reading of that notice important.
How we work on visit applications
A solicitor reviews the documents, advises on gaps, drafts the covering explanation where one is appropriate, and approves the application before submission. The decision, and the time taken to make it, rest with UKVI.
