Visitor visas
How much money do I need for a UK visitor visa?
There is no set minimum amount of money for a Standard Visitor visa. Instead, you must show you can pay for your trip without working or claiming public funds.
No fixed figure
The Immigration Rules require visitors to show they have sufficient funds to cover their trip — travel, accommodation and living costs — and to support any dependants at home. No set minimum figure applies.
What the decision-maker looks at
- Whether the funds are proportionate to the planned trip and to your income.
- Where the money came from — large unexplained deposits shortly before applying are a common reason for refusal.
- Your ongoing commitments at home, such as rent and family support.
- Whether a UK host or sponsor is genuinely able and willing to help, if they are contributing.
Evidence
- Personal bank statements, usually covering several months.
- Payslips or business evidence showing the source of income.
- If someone else is funding the trip, their evidence and an explanation of the relationship.
The visa fee itself
From 8 April 2026 a standard visitor visa costs £135. Fees for long-term visitor visas are higher.
